Jagatguru Shankaracharya of Puri today said he would undertake a
journey to the Kashmir valley next week for restoration of peace
and bringing back normalcy to the strife-torn state.

"I will leave for Kashmir next week to work for the restoration of
peace m valley where the dance of death still continues," the
Jagatguru said here today.

"The time is near when the faded glory of the paradise shall be
restored and people will live again in the manner they were living
prior to the beginning of militancy in 1989," he said.

Shankaracharya, who is currently on a month-long visit to Jammu and
Kashmir, said his visit to the valley would be accompanied by
intellectuals, religious leaders as well as common men Hindus,
Muslims and Sikhs.

"I will talk to the All Party Hurriyat Conference (APHC) leaders
and militants m the Kashmir valley to know their point of view and
also that of the government in the state so that a solution can be
found for a permanent peace in Jammu and Kashmir," the Jagatguru
said.

He said he would hold meetings at five religious places in the
valley.

"These places are Shankaracharya temple near Dal lake,
Charar-e-Sharief, Chatti-Padshahee Gurdwara, the shrine of Peer
Dastigir Sahib and the holy shrine of Mata Kher Bhawani of
Tulmullah in Kashmir," the Puri Muth chief said.

Regarding the security arrangements made by the government during
his visit he said, "I do not need any security, as it will weaken
my mission of peace for the valley."

"However, the government should not suspect my motives for taking
to Hurriyat and militant leaders. As a true dharmacharya", it is
my prime job to talk to all the people concerned," he added.

"I am equally confident that people of the valley, particularly the
Hurriyat and militant leaders should consider me as neutral person
and not as an agent of the Indian government" the religious leader
said.

He also lashed out at politicians for linking religion with
politics.

The Jagatguru said "the nexus between fake dharmacharyas and
political bigwigs have infected the very roots of our social system
and the country has been brought to point of destruction,."

Meanwhile in Mumbai, veteran Israeli diplomat Yossi Ben-Aharon said
that India must exercise great firmness and patience to counter the
"war of attrition" over Kashmir launched by Pakistan, here.

Ben-Aharon who was on a three-day visit to India, said that "a very
firm, strong and patient approach in this war of attrition should
eventually wear down the opponent and convey the clear message that
such tactics will not pay."
