Rajya Sabha on Friday
witnessed noisy scenes over the reported remarks of Shahi Imam of Jama
Masjid.
The Imam was quoted as
saying that he is an ISI agent even as he dared the Government to take
action against him. He has also blamed the Indian agencies for the Chhatisinghpora
massacre of the Sikhs. The matter was raised by BJP member S.S. Ahluwalia
who said that the Imam's remarks were a challenge to all the Indians. Mr
Ahluwalia said the religious head was harming the interests of the Muslims
by making such remarks.
At this, a Congress member
sought to clarify that treating the Shahi Imam as representative of the
Muslim community was wrong.
