New Delhi, May 9: Chairman
of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) and senior executive member
of Hurriyat Conference Yasin Malik has admitted that he was involved in
the kidnapping of Rubaiya Sayeed, the daughter of the then home minister
Mufti Sayeed in 1989.
"It is correct, yes,"
was the reply of Malik when asked whether he was involved in the kidnapping
of Rubaiya.
Malik, released last
week after six-month long detention under Public Safety Act, was replying
to a question in India Talks programme of CNBC which will be telecast tonight,
according to a press release from the programme producer.
Rubaiya was kidnapped
in December 1989 and the then V.P. Singh government had to release five
hard-core militants in exchange for her release.
Malik, however, ducked
a question about the killing of Indian Air Force personnel in the outskirts
of Srinagar city in 1990. He has been charged by the government in connection
with the brutal killing of six IAF personnel near Rawalpora in January
1990.
Referring to the Kashmir
issue, he reiterated his "hardline" position that it was an international
dispute and not a "centre-state issue".
Malik, however, denied
that his approach to Kashmir issue was biased towards Pakistan. "Pakistan
is a party to dispute as a part of Kashmir is also under their occupation,"
Malik said.
