Will Negativism remain the political philosophy of Indian Muslims?

'Barq girti hai to bechare Mussalmanon par'.  Even the lightning
singles out the Muslim community as its target, said the famous Islamic poet Sir Muhammad Iqbal.  But the same seems to be the fate of our half Muslim pseudo-secular tribesmen, the Nehruvian negationists of Hindu culture.  For, as Sardar Patel nicknamed Nehru as "the only nationalist Muslim of India", his pseudo-Gandhian, Marxist and westernised liberal camp followers are no better than three-quarter Islamists, believering as they do in the Super-Race status of the Muslims because of their vote-bank veto.  For, it has served as a life-buoy or life-saver for them in the sea of saffron.

So, when the new BJP President, Shri Bangaroo Laxman calls Indian Muslims as "the flesh of our flesh" and asks them to change their negative attitude towards the BJP and join the national mainstream, or tells the BJP workers to educate them about the political relities to end their self-imposed isolation, it is nothing but a bolt from the blue for their egoistic political and religious keepers, feeding fat on the servility, the blandishments and appeasement of a craven elite which has brought the country to virtual breakdown by decades of myopic, self-serving politicking of the lowest kind.

Thus more than the long-pampered conscience-keepers, salesmen and contractors of the Muslim vote-bank, Shri Laxman's call is taken as a death-knell for the straggling anti-Hindutva tribes.  So when along with Shri Bangaroo's call to the party workers to reach out to Muslim as their oft-repeated own compatriots (countrymen) to remove their oft-repeated complaint that the BJP does not care for them, as many of their leaders and mediamen have been doing since the party's ascendancy to power, the fat is in the fire for them.  It has confused them no end, making some break out into venomous outcries of a calculated ploy to confuse and devide the 'secular' camp.  They see a foul trap in it to finish them.

But as if this was not enough, now comes the second blow for the pseudo-secularists and their crumb-seeking hangers-on and mullahs and maulanas of foreign descent.  For, when Shri Atal Behari Vajpayee calls himself a 'swayamsevak' which literary means a 'volunteer for national service' and repeats the resolve "to build the Bharat of our dreams" at a conclave of pro-VHP sadhus and sants organised by the Friends of the BJP in America, the shock is redoubled.  The whole crypto-Islamic from Delhi to Islamabad phalanx is aghast, as if he has said something outlandish.

Funnily enough, the most outraged are the left-libber mercenaries of foreign fatherlands.  It is double trouble for them, while the Congress is shell-shocked For, the fact is that it frustrates all their attempts to snatch the three cardinal issues from the BJP agenda and then paint it as betrayer of the Hindu cause.  They are flabbergasted that Shri Vajpayee has proved too clever for them and even the NDA partners have found nothing wrong with it.  For, being at the height of his power and glory by bringing unprecedented diplomatic successes for India, Atalji's position has gradually become unassailable.  As even the US correspondent of Hindustan Times wrote, India has attained an influence equal to the Jewish lobby in America.  This has made the Hindus feel unbeat as never before.

In any case, the discredited and badly divided secularist legions are unable to cut much ice with their hackneyed cacophony.  For, the real fact is that in Hindu mind, the Congress and its Marxist and left-libber cohorts are still the betrayers who cut up the Motherland in collaboration with the Muslim League for fear of its Pistol-cum-dagger power.  Even after the independence and the vivisection, far from calling it a Hindu country, they gave a Super Race status to Leaguers and absorbed them in their bosom to negate and frustrate the Hindu Society.  The Hindu feelings have for too long been suppressed and crushed despite even post-partition outrages.  Jawaharlal Nehru went out of his way to brand Hindu nationalism as 'communalism'.  He called it a menace bigger than that of the subversive, extra-territorial communism which was working overtime to establish Soviet and Chinese hegemony over India.

Shri Bangaroo Laxman's call to Muslims is "the most important event of the first year of the New Millennium" Anyway, while the Nehruvian secularism and pacifism has been exposed miserably, though at great cost to the country.  Those who are aghast at Bangaroo Laxman's description of Muslims as 'flesh of our flesh' are reminded of Shri Deendayal Upadhyaya's similar description in his presidential address at Calicut in 1967, just a few months he was murdered in a train journey near Patna.  However, the most crucial questions whether they too think so or not?

Earlier, Dr Shyama Prasad Mookerjee, once President of the Hindu Mahasabha, resigned from the Sabha in 1948 when it refused to open its doors to non-Hindus after independence.  His argument was that after the end of separate electorate, there was no rationale for keeping Muslims or Christians out.  However, he associated Hindu Mahasabha with his Naitonal Democratic Front, formed in Parliament after the 1952 polls.  Thus, the Jana Sangh founded by him opened the doors to all Indians, even as it affirmed its faith in 'Bharatiya' culture.

This, however, is an anathema to the pseudos of the Nehruvian variety and their pet 'Ashraf' class of Muslims, the descendants of foreign invaders, camp followers, courtiers, mullah, ulemas and even sufi-saints who inevitably followed the invading hordes to escape poverty from their impoverished lands which lured them to prosperous India in search of booty and houris.  They indulged in the harshest ruthless violence for sheer survival, taking, the softened superior Indian civilisation by surprise.

Thus, these so-called 'Ashrafs' do not want the nearly 90 per cent local converts, the lowly 'ajlafs' on whom they maintain a continuous stranglehold, by insidious Quranic brainwashing and alienation from local cultures, to slip out of their hold.  As a Muslim journalist told a seminar sometime back, they are Arabising Indian Muslims and finishing even the surviving pockets of indigenous culture for vested interests through mosques and madarsas, mushrooming with Gulf money with redoubled vengeance.  It is these fanatical and foreign-financed people who are against the Indian Muslims joining the national mainstream by making them look and behave like outlandish foreigners in their own land, even at the cost of consigning them to the ghettoes.  Shri Bangaroo Laxman's call is for reclaiming and rescuing such captive mass of people from imposed alienation, aloofness and backwardness to align them with Mother Society with due respect.

Meanwhile, it is interesting to note Shri Bangaroo Laxman's fraternal remarks about Muslims and appeal to the BJP workers to reach out to the Muslim masses to bring them near to the party, has according to a commentator "set a cat among pigeons".  For, a host of Muslim leaders, big or small, consequential or inconsequental, are vying with each other to vent their views, mostly hostile, on this 'unusual phenomenon' which a local Urdu daily has described as "the most important event of the first year of the new millennium".

However, while for most of the Maulanas and non-Maulanas it seems to be another godsend to vent their spleen against the Hindutva, if the collection of such opinions in 'the most popular' local Urdu weekly, is any guide, the more worried are of course the pseudo-secularists sidelined from corridors of power for a couple of years now, thinking it would be end of the road for them if the BJP-headed NDA completes its full term.  For, that is the acid test of lasting acceptability and stability in India.  But more than that, that is what would ultimately decide the Muslim vote-banks attitude in India.  For, Muslims are a very pragmatic people.  They shifted their loyalty from Muslim League to Congress soon after Partition although they had loathed and hated it like the plague.  But then it was a question of survival and the Congress was the party in power.  So, Jinnah caps turned into Gandhi caps overnight after 15 years of silent consolidation.

Meanwhile, though inwardly flustered at this strange phenomenon of BJP's bids to win over Muslims, the secularist are now hoping that like the Congress earlier, it too will fall between two stools.  The secularist scribes seem more rattled in this respect.  In any case, they are bitterly attacking the new stance, although as an eminent commentator says, they should have welcomed this new 'secular' stance under a Dalit leader.  As she sums up the bizarre situation : "It should have warmed every secularist heart in India that our main 'Hindu fundamentalist' party was showing signs of change.  So it is interesting that Bangaroo Laxman's words seem to have had the opposite effect.

Secular editors sneered, secular cartoonists lampooned BJP leaders and secular politicians huffed and puffed.  How dare you, was oddly enough, the general reaction.  Puzzling? Not when you remember that secular political leaders have long used the RSS, thereby the BJP, as a bogeyman to frighten Muslim voters into 'secular' arms.  Not when you remember that the Congress has told us for 50 years that secularism was something Jawharlal Nehru invented." (Ms Tavleen Singh in Indian Today, September 11).  In fact, her whole article 'Weigh Your Words' is a blistering exposure of Nehruvian secularism as the worst kind of communalism.

She calls Nehruvian secularism as one of "the most generous kind".  It has allowed Muslims to retain their anti-woman personal law (a perversity for which even Nehru's leftist biographer Prof.  S.  Gopal has criticised him in Vol.  III, P.  281.  She has criticised the enormous subsidy on Haj pilgrimage without extending the similar subsidy to Hindu Yatris to Kailash Mansarovar etc.

Most interestingly, she citicises leftist historian Romila Thapar's bid to whitewash Aurangzeb's anti-Hindu fanaticism to paint him a true blue secularist ignoring all his outrages which finished the Mughal empire.  Quoting a French journalist (residing in India) Francois Gautier, she ridicule Thapar's bid to run down genuine historians by his motivated verdict that "Aurangzeb's supposed intolerance is little more than a hostile legend based on isolated acts such as the erection of a mosque on a temple site on Benaras".

Interestingly, Ms.  Tavleen Singh's own verdict is that "Hindus and Muslims know Islam is the very anti-thesis of Hinduism but our political leaders have perpetrated the lie that all religions are the same." However, to understand the point better one should read 'Dr Ambedkar's Thoughts on Pakistan' also.  This reminds me of a series of articles on the life of a Congress-turned-Muslim League leader of Lahore in 1946, reproduced from a Pakistani religious magazine by Nehru-family's Urdu daily Quami Awaz, recently.  The said leader named Maulana Daud Ghazanavi was a religious leader of the Ahl-e-Hadis Sect and an Ahrar party leader also.  He appointed Punjab Congress President at the instance of Maulana Azad in 1945 but resigned and joined the League in 1946 after League's victory in the crucial 1945 polls.  I was reminded of the entire episode as I was studying in DAV College Lahore in 2nd year at the time.

Anyway, the most interesting thing that comes out from the Mualana Ghazanavi's life-story is his observation that 'Negativism' or Negation (disowning) of all existing creeds, beliefs, history, culture is the very foundation of Islam, because the very Kalima, "There is no god, but God" is rooted in 'No' or denial of any compromise with anything non-Islamic.  That is why it creates a totally new nation, and a new society and remains continuous war with 'Kufr' till it overpowers it.  As the Ulema claims Islam to be no less of a political creed also, will 'Negation' continue to remain the leit-motif of Indian Muslim Life? They need to pause and ponder.
