Four days after the blasts that ripped through
Ahmedabad killing 49 people and injuring 180 others, the investigators have
claimed a breakthrough in the case.
They said that a single terror organisation
was responsible for the Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Jaipur blasts as well as the
21 live bombs that were found and defused in Surat.
And though the Gujarat Police didn't name
any organisation, investigations point to a Pakistan hand behind the terror
plots.
Seven men accused under POTA are being questoined
in Sabarmati Jail. All of them are linked to Dawood Ibrahim aide, Rasool Patti,
who is a Pakistan national. Investigators say that there were calls made to
Pakistan from the jail immediately after 18 blasts rocked Ahmedabad on Saturday.
The police have seized three mobile phones from Sabarmati Jail.
Meanwhile, Surat Police Commissioner RMS Brar
confirmed that the Bangalore and Ahmedabad serial blasts as well as the failed
attack in Surat, have several similarities.
"It seems these bombs were planted in
Surat before the blasts happened in Ahmedabad but they were only detected
later. The chips used in Bangalore and Surat bombs were similar but we do
not know if there is any other similarity between the two events. We do not
know yet who is responsible for all this, but we are investigating. There
is certainly a local hand supporting these mishaps," he said.
According to the police, the bombs in Surat
did not explode because of a chip malfunction. A glitch in the integrated
chip prevented the bombs from going off.
Surat Crime branch Inspector, P M Parmar has
said that the recovered chips have been sent for investigation.
"The detonator of the bomb was connected
to both battery as well as the IC, so some programme must have been used.
We have sent it to FSL, Gandhinagar, for investigation," Parmar said.
