The Sarvabharatiya Prachyavidya Academy will
hold a nine day extensive Durga Puja training camp for priests. The training
will begin from tomorrow and continue till 3 September.
The training will help the priests perfect
the rendition of Sanskrit hymns and learn the exact process of worshipping
goddess Durga.
More than 100 students have already enrolled
their names for the training camp. Interestingly, three doctors, five engineers
and four lawyers have registered their names for the training camp, said Mr
Jayanta Kushary, principal of the Sarvabharatiya Prachyavidya Academy.
Practical and theory classes will be held
simultaneously at Sobhabazar Rajbari. Students who have passed their school
final examinations are qualified to take admission for the training. The course
fee is Rs 100. Students will get a certificate issued by Mr Pranab Roy, former
secretary of the Bangiyo Sanskrit Siksha Parishad.
Around 18 teachers will come from Sanskrit
College and the Nikhil Banga Sanskrit Sibir Samity to impart training. The
training will be held from 2 pm to 5 pm. Hindus cutting across caste divisions
have enlisted their names for the training.
Mr Kushary pointed out the fact that the number
of expert priests is fast decreasing. He expressed the hope that such training
would arrest this trend.
