Mohammed Ajmal Amir Iman, the lone terrorist
caught alive during November 26 terror attacks, is not aware that Pakistan
has disowned him, a crime branch official said.
"He asked us about the status of his
letter on legal help. We told him that it is in the process. However, he is
not aware of any developments in Pakistan. He does not know that Pakistan
has disowned him stating that evidence was not sufficient to prove Ajmal's
nationality," said the investigating officer.
"We will tell him about the status of
his legal help at an appropriate time. This is also a part of our investigation
strategy," the officer added.
Ajmal, who along with his associate Ismail
Khan went on killing spree at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus railway station
and also gunned down three top cops near Cama Hospital, had in the second
week of December written to the Pakistan High Commission seeking legal help.
Ajmal had also stated that he and his associates
were Pakistanis and asked the Pakistan High Commission to take custody of
the body of fellow terrorist Ismail Khan, who was killed in an encounter in
south Mumbai on the same night.
The letter was moved to Pakistan High Commission
by the Indian government.
Last week, Ajmal was taken to Arthur Road
jail for three days for his Identification Parade where about 20 witnesses
had identified him. Ajmal had shown no sign of remorse even after causing
mayhem in the city, an official from the jail authority said.
"He believes that whatever he had done
was right. He is not regretting for his deeds," the official added.
