Sanjay Belsare did not look any less than a person working in corporate world, wearing a suit, walking confidently and even talking in English. Nothing he did made him look like any other autorickshaw driver you would have seen.

After all, his was one of owners of G-Autos, which Chief Minister Narendra Modi flagged off at Khokhra circle on Thursday evening. G-Autos are autorickshaws which offer passengers not only a ride to their destination but an experience replete with newspapers, magazines, a mobile telephone booth, helpline numbers and a dustbin.

G-Auto, which stands for Gujarat Auto, is an initiative of Nirmal Kumar, an alumnus of Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A). Initiated in June 2008, when Nirmal approached chief minister with this idea, G-Auto has grown to 1100 registered members.

Pravin Solanki, another rickshaw driver, said, "I have seen difference in the way people treat me. If my autorickshaw is standing amid others, it is the first one to be taken." With these facilities, auto drivers under the G-Auto banner are given personal insurance, medical insurance and funds to pay school fee for their children.
