In an unprecedented catch, a woman gun-runner
was nabbed by the sleuths of the Anti-Terrorists Squad (ATS) with nine .32
bore pistols when she was 'marketing her consignment' in Aligarh on Sunday
night.
Another carrier, who was to receive the supply
before forwarding it to western UP gangs, managed to escape.
As per reports, the Aligarh unit of ATS was
tipped-off about a Madhya Pradesh-based gang engaged in supplying sophisticated
weapons to western UP gangs. The ATS team started tracking the gun-runners
through electronic surveillance. On Sunday night, they learnt that one Mohbari
of Saidwa district (MP) had reached Aligarh with a consignment which was to
be handed over to a carrier Dinesh of Tappal in Aligarh.
It also surfaced that the transaction was
to take place in Civil Lines area.
A team was immediately rushed to the area
and the sleuths found Mohbari showing the pistols to Dinesh. As the cops closed
in on them, Dinesh managed to flee the scene but Mohbari was caught with a
bag. Nine .32 bore pistols were recovered from her possession.
During quizzing, Mohbari disclosed that she
was working for one Sheru who used to manufacture firearms in her native town.
She claimed that she had earlier supplied several consignments of revolvers
and pistols along with cartridges. She said that since she was a woman, she
was never suspected or checked.
