After targeting Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the BJP is now looking at training guns on Rahul Gandhi as part of its campaign. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has mocked Rahul Gandhi's trips to rural Uttar Pradesh as hypocritical acts.

"Once in a while Rahul Gandhi ventures into a poor family's hut. It is properly photographed and printed all across newspapers. There is no bigger hypocrite. Rahul Gandhi, if your Congress party had sincerely served the nation, effected development programmes to benefit the poor, there would have been no poverty nor any huts in this country," challenged Chouhan at a public rally.

The two national parties, the BJP and the Congress have been indulging in a war of words oftener of late. Since the election season began, the rhetoric has escalated.

Recently, the Congress party released its election manifesto but the event was overshadowed by an unusually sharp attack launched by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Bharatiya Janata Party's prime ministerial candidate LK Advani.

The Nehruvian academic declared war on the Hindutva ideologue saying his only contribution to India's national welfare was the demolition of the Babri Masjid. Advani hit back saying Manmohan Singh was controlled by Sonia Gandhi.
