BJP star campaigner, Gujarat Chief Minster Narendra Modi, addressing an election meeting here on Sunday, described the Congress as a party that "believes in dynasty politics". Even though the Congress has declared Manmohan Singh as its prime ministerial candidate, its UPA constituents are not ready to accept him, he said.

Modi criticised the Third Front as a combination of many divergent forces whose numbers are not known. And they are rank opportunists; once elected to power they would take advantage of the situation for their own interests rather than severing the poor, he said. He called upon people to vote for the BJP which believes in nationalism and development.

He said that even though Gujarat has no iron over reserve, it produces a large amount of steel, but even if Orissa has a large number of iron ore mines it does not have an adequate number of steel plants and the youth of Orissa are working in Gujarat-based industries. Once elected to power, the BJP would provide rice at Rs 1 per kg, dal at Rs 5 and salt free of cost, Modi said.

Modi said that wherever the BJP has been betrayed by its erstwhile allies, it has bounced back to power and the same would be the case in Orissa, with the people giving a befitting reply to the betrayer BJD.

BJP candidate for the Balangir Lok Sabha constituency Sangeeta Singh Deo criticised her both Congress and BJD opponents and sought blessings of people to finish her unfinished development works. Congress candidate Narsingha Mishra, who started his career as a Communist, later jumped to the Janata Dal and then to the OGP and finally to the Congress, which speaks volumes about his ideological convictions, she remarked.

She further said her royal palace of Balangir has turned out to be an entertainment TV channel. "Close your TV entertainment channel and do not go to cinema hall," she said, adding that the members of the palace, who are opposed to her politically, are going to the Patnagrah Assembly segment and asking people as to what development measures have been taken by her as the MP and her husband as the local MLA. They are only denigrating the image of Late Maharajas RN Singh Deo and RR Singh Deo, she alleged.

BJP State president Suresh Pujari accused Naveen Patnaik of breaking the BJP-BJD alliance. BJP candidate for the Loisingha Assembly seat Magah Kumbhar and party nominee for Balangir Assembly seat Basudev Pati also spoke on the occasion.
