BJP's national general secretary Ravi Shankar Prasad said that Centre's refusal to revoke National Security Act against Varun Gandhi reflected an ugly face of vote-bank politics and how parties used law to win votes of a particular section of the society.

He said Varun was the only politician against whom the NSA was invoked during the past four decades. "Can both the state and the Union governments justify that Varun Gandhi is more criminal in character than Mokhtar Ansari", he asked.

"Even Kasab, one of the prime accused of 26/11 Mumbai strikes which claimed 300 lives, is not slapped with the NSA. But this dreaded Act has been invoked against Varun just to please Muslims," he told the media persons here on Sunday.

Prasad said the people would give a befitting reply to the Congress and the BSP in the on-going Lok Sabha election.

Hitting out at Congress, the BJP national spokesman said that the Gandhi family was playing the "politics of inheritance'' like a soap opera.

"The entire party is revolving around the Gandhi family and now even some ministers in the Manmohan cabinet want Rahul Gandhi to become Prime minister'', Prasad said.

"A sister is asking her brother to become the Prime Minister and the brother is terming himself as inexperienced thus an opera is going on in the Congress so that the power remains within one family,'' he alleged.

He said the Congress was a 'sinking ship' as all its allies, including Lalu Prasad, Ram Vilas Paswan and Mulayam Singh Yadav had left it.

Defending the NDA government's action to release four terrorists in lieu of the passengers victim of Kandahar hijack drama, Prasad said that the all-party meeting which was attended by Dr Manmohan Singh had authorised the government to do whatever was necessary to bring back 200 passengers.

"Why are they raking up old issues like Kandhar and are mum over the implementation of Supreme Court's order over Afzal Guru?'' he questioned.

Prasad also denied that BJP prime ministerial candidate LK Advani said he would quit politics if he did not become the PM this time. "Such statements attributed to Advani reported by a national magazine are incorrect as he never said such thing,'' he added.

Commenting on the state of affairs in UP, Prasad said both the SP and BSP did nothing good for the state. Criticising BSP chief Mayawati for her statue culture, the BJP national spokesperson said no democratic country had statue of a living political leader.

"Only we have seen statues of Sadam Hussain in Iraq and their subsequent demolition," he added.
