"I am pained by immaturity of your comments"

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan wrote personal letters to Congress president Sonia Gandhi and general secretary Rahul Gandhi on Saturday regarding various statements made by the two at election rallies in the State in recent days.

In his letter to Ms. Gandhi, addressed as "Respected Mrs. Sonia Gandhi", the Chief Minister expressed his surprise over her statements about the State Government's "Laadli Lakshmi" scheme.

"If newspaper reports are to be believed, you said that the Dhanalakshmi scheme has been going on in Delhi and Haryana for a long time and that the Madhya Pradesh Government has stolen this scheme and renamed it Laadli Lakshmi…..For your information, our scheme is much older than the Dhanlakshmi scheme…..the truth is that there is no such scheme as Dhanalakshmi in Delhi and Haryana. It was launched by the Central Government in Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Orissa, Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab….While you complain that we stole your scheme…our complaint is that you haven't even stolen our scheme properly," the Chief Minister wrote.

"…..What inspired you to lie so blatantly in the land of the Mahakaal (Lord Shiva)?..…I hope that you are able to distance yourself from such slander in future," he concluded.
Harsher words

His words were even harsher for the young Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi.

"Dear Mr. Rahul Gandhi….I write to you in pain….true that these are formative years of your political career and it would be unfair to expect any maturity from your statements….but you should at least have the mind to stay silent about issues you have no information about….If your start on a faulty note, your career will be over before even starting," Mr. Chauhan wrote.

"……In one rally you said that out of the funds allocated by the Central Government for Madhya Pradesh, only 15 per cent reaches the needy. On 19th April in Panna, this became 10 per cent and on 21st April in Pipariya, you further reduced it to 5 per cent!" he added.

"It is clear that maligning the BJP government in Madhya Pradesh is your stated political motive..…but won't such self-contradictory statements destroy your credibility forever? While you see everything in Madhya Pradesh as mismanaged, several ministers of the UPA government have praised us before the elections. Rural Affairs Minister Raghuvansh Pratap Singh, Finance Minister P. Chidambaram, Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss and Panchayati Raj Minister Mani Shankar Aiyer have all praised Madhya Pradesh for good work in their respective areas..…I am attaching the newspaper cuttings of the statements made by these ministers….," Mr. Chauhan wrote.

"I myself have received the 'Most Improved State' award from the President of India for Madhya Pradesh…. And most of all the people of MP have given the BJP their mandate in last year's assembly elections..…Therefore it would be beneficial for your political career to think and analyse before you make any unfounded statements," the Chief Minister concluded.

The letters were made available by Madhya Pradesh Madhyam, a division of the State Department of Public Relations.
