Resistance of the traders and residents of the Liyakat Market area against opening of a liquor shop broke out on streets on Thursday. Infuriated crowd, raising slogans against the district administration, blocked the traffic demanding immediate cancellation of permission granted for opening of a country made liquor shop.

For hours situation remained tensed in the area, senior police officials rushed to the spot and attempted to pacify the issue. The agitators were of the view that permission of selling liquor from the area should be immediately cancelled.

According to the police, complainant informed that a licence of selling liquor in the area was allotted to the Shivhare Company by the district administration. Location, which the company initially chose was lying next to the office of a Hindu organisation.

The reason forced it to sell the country made liquor by installing a hawker in front of service station in the area that reportedly belongs to a private transport company.

However, as soon as the local residents spotted the hawker in the afternoon they forced the operators to close it. The incongruity soon turned violent and local residents closed it forcefully. Officials of the concerned Hanumanganj police station too reached the spot and attempted to clear the blockade.

Officials present on the spot were of the view that if the company is able to table the required permission than the operation of the shop will be allowed in area. Even a possibility of giving security to the shop for avoiding such condition in future was not ruled out by the cops.
