The BJP has demanded a public apology from
Chief Minister Mayawati for imposing National Security Act on Varun Gandhi
saying the Supreme Court order had vindicated party's stand that government's
act was politically-motivated.
"The Apex Court's order asking the state
government to revoke NSA on Varun Gandhi is a slap on the face of Mayawati
Government and Chief Minister should now take responsibility for using this
draconian law to gain political mileage," BJP spokesman HN Dixit told
reporters here on Thursday.
He said that Chief Minister should publicly
apologise for the misdeed of her government.
"The state government's decision to move
the Supreme Court after State Advisory Board of the High Court recommendation
against the NSA on Varun, reflects the desperation of the Mayawati Government
to politicise the issue," Dixit said, and added that the Apex Court's
order was people's victory.
He said that it also showed the state government's
disrespect for Constitutional bodies. "The imposition of NSA on Varun
was an act of political vendetta and the state government should be ashamed
of it," he said.
