A fast track court in Sewri has finally nailed Sherbahadur Khan and his gang members who had wrecked havoc in Filterpada slums in Powai for quite some time.

The court on Monday convicted Khan and nine people closely related to him for killing two Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) activists in March 2004 and sentenced them to life imprisonment.

Sixty six-year-old Sher-bahadur was known as don in slums of Filterpada.

On March 20, 2004, he had entered into a scuffle with the deceased - Mahamantri Dubey (38) and Hosalaprasad Upadhyay (45), who kept complaining against his illegal activities.

Sherbahadur later went home and returned with his three sons Yusuf (38), Rauf alias Guddu (35) and Arif (28), younger brother Yakub (60) and five others.

The five have been identified as Amroj alias Papa Monin Khan (26), his younger brother Amin (25), Akramhussain Mohiddin Shaikh (38), Khaja Jamal Khan (50) and Akhtarhussain Abdulla Siddhiqui (50).

All of them, armed with swords, knives and other such weapons, cornered Dubey and Upadhyay and hacked them to death.
Both of them died on the spot, creating communal tension in the area.

The police connected with the case said the gang led by Sherbahadur was involved in numerous illegal activities.
"They grabbed government and public properties, constructed and sold illegal shanties, sold electricity and water illegally," said Assistant Commissioner of Police Prakash Wadkar.

"One of them was even booked for manufacturing narcotics like Mandrax in the slums," Wadkar added.
