One is an architect and urban planner, the
other an MBA. But both didn't think twice before giving up their well-paid
jobs with multinational firms to be part of the fight against corruption.
Naga Srinivas (30) and Naresh Thakur (26)
quit promising careers to join Anna Hazare's movement and are now part of
the core committee of the India Against Corruption team in Mumbai.
"If I want to run at 1000km/hr, existing
policies don't even let me run at 10km/hr. My efforts at promoting sustainable
green buildings have been met with several hurdles," said Srinivas, the
architect. "I've worked for eight years, I have my savings. I'm single
and I can sustain myself for now. My parents are in Vizag and are supporting
me in this."
Thakur didn't make a calculated decision.
"I know it isn't practical to quit your job but were Bhagat Singh and
Subhash Chandra Bose practical? My father was in the Army and it's in my blood
to serve the nation. I would've done it irrespective of Anna Hazare as serving
the nation isn't a passion but a mission for me."
Thakur quit his job with 3 Global Service
(P) Ltd on October 2, when the movement against corruption started. "I
wanted to do this for a good cause," said Thakur.
