While Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal is trying hard to debunk the development in Gujarat during his ongoing self-audit tour of the state, his supporters are busy playing the victim card after Election Commission slapped a notice to them following the violent protest by AAP activists outside BJP HQ in Delhi.

However, the latest news doing rounds on the social media are the words of praise showered on Gujarat by South Mumbai AAP candidate Meera Sanyal.

In the year 2012, the former banker Meera Sanyal during a visit to Gujarat, particularly the rural areas, seemed quite impressed with the work done by the locals and the government.

Every village in Gujarat has 24x7 power courtesy Jyoti Gram Yojna. Solar not visible. Some villages have gas, but many still use firewood

In her blog, Sanyal had mentioned about people in rural Gujarat being well aware about the importance of education and how the kids including girls were encouraged to study. She particularly, was quite impressed with the empowerment of women in most rural areas of the state.

Kejriwal, during his ongoing visit to Gujarat, has said that villages in Gujarat don’t get electricity. However, Meera had affirmed back in 2012, that each region in the state had 24×7 uninterrupted power supply owing to the ‘Jyoti Gram Yojna’ and had also appreciated the discipline of charging electricity for both agricultural use and domestic consumption instead of doling out freebie culture.

The former banker, however, had pointed out certain issues that needed attention like cleanliness of the villages, use of solar energy and weather insurance for the farmers. But she had clearly mentioned that Gujarat has achieved areas of success which the rest of country can emulate.

Interestingly, just days after Sanyal’s visit and her recommendation of escalating use of solar energy, in April 2012, Gujarat Chief Minister had dedicated Asia’s largest solar park to the nation.

When the March 2012 blog and tweets were highlighted by users on social media, Sanyal retorted saying that she had praised the people of Gujarat and not the government or Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
