The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad has urged Muslims to shun those involved in the 'love jehad'. ABVP national secretary Sunil Ambekar said since the motive of such persons is jehad and not love, it is sinful.

Muslim clerics and ulema should come forward to ex-communicate those involved and spread awareness against the menace, he added.

"It is a new problem staring the society," Ambekar said at the concluding session of the ABVP women members' workshop and added that it is for this reason the ABVP decided to launch awareness campaign against love jehad on campuses and other areas.

Chief guest of the event, the newly appointed National Women Commission chairperson Lalita Manglam said besides men, women should get respect from each other too. She said like terrorists, rapists and those involved in atrocities on women have no religion either. "Men should not be blamed squarely for all problems related to women," she said.

Earlier, 200 women leaders from across the country were apprised of the legal support available in the country and how various laws could be utilised to improve the situation. During the media session, budding women leaders were trained on how to present their views in keeping with the parishad ideology at various platforms including print, electronic and social media.

After the two-day workshop ended on Sunday, it was decided that ABVP women members would form human chain across the country to raise awareness on issues pertaining to women security, ABVP vice-president Mamta Yadav said, adding that a tentative date of October 7 has been decided.
