For a student of journalism at the prestigious Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), protesting against NDTV Group Editor Barkha Dutt proved to be a costly affair in terms of his career prospects. A Hindi journalism student of IIMC, Yogesh Kumar Sheetal (2010-11 batch), alongwith others, had assembled at the India Gate on 9 April to attend a candlelight procession to mark the successful culmination of the agitation by social activist Anna Hazare.

Trouble began when Yogesh started protesting against Barkha Dutt, who was also at the spot to cover the procession. Sheetal's contention was that the journalist did not have any moral authority to ask questions on corruption since allegedly there were charges corruption against her. A few days later, one Rubi Dhingra of NDTV complained to IIMC's course director, Hindi journalism, Pradhan, informing him about the India Gate incident, who in turn, served a show cause notice to Sheetal.

Sheetal had to suffer a lot in terms of career.

"I had appeared for the written test of a job in a Hindi newspaper as part of the campus drive, and was even called for the interview. But after the incident I did not get any call," he said. Sheetal feared that due to the incident, he may not get jobs in other newspapers as well. "But I am keeping my fingers crossed. A few other newspapers are planning to hold campus interviews," he said.
