ITBP jawans have built a bridge, which couldn't be constructed in nine years due to Naxal threat, in just 30 days in Chhattisgarh.

ITBP jawans have built a bridge in just 30 days in Chhattisgarh, which couldn’t be constructed in nine years due to Naxal threat. The bridge has been constructed on river Tatoda in village Kaneri of district Rajnandgaon in Chhattisgarh. In a tweet, ITBP today said, “Secured and speedy construction of suspension-bailey bridge on River Tatoda, Kaneri, Rajnandgaon, chhatisgarh ensured by 44#ITBP.”

The bridge in Naxal-hit Kaneri village in Bhilai of Chhattisgarh, was completed earlier this month. According to a report by Hindi daily Dainik Bhaskar, Kaneri village sarpanch Halaur Singh was killed by the Naxals 12 years ago just for talking about the construction of the bridge. In 2008, the government built a temporary bridge but it was destroyed by the Maoists.

According to the report, the government kept on trying to build the bridge in the last nine years but no one came forward to take up the project because of fear of the Naxals. Lastly, the government sought help of the ITBP and its jawans took just 30 days to complete the bridge after starting the construction last month. The report says that the bridge would help around 10,000 villagers of 60 villages in the area.

Chhattisgarh has been hit by Naxals violence for years. On April 24, the Red extremists had killed as many as 25 CRPF personnels and injured six wounded in Sukma. Before this, the Naxals had ambushed a CRPF patrolling team on March 11 in the district in which 12 personnel lost their lives.

In Jharkhand on Monday, Maoists started a day-long bandh by blowing up a railway track on the Howrah-New Delhi Grand Chord section, disrupting movement of several trains including the Rajdhani Express, according to PTI.

Superintendent of Police (Railway), Dhanbad, Asim Vikrant Minz said the track was blown up between Chichaki-Karmabad stations under Dhanbad Railway Division at around 12.40 am, shortly after the bandh began midnight last night. Several long-distance trains including Kalka Mail, three Rajdhani Express trains, Hatia-Patna Express, Howrah-Dehradun Express were stranded following the incident, Railway sources told PTI.
