In this post, I will show how the concept of "minority" has been illegitimately misused and abused in India to discriminate against the vast majority of powerless common people. I issue an open challenge to secularists to put up a factual rebuttal to the facts written in this post What is "minority"? According to Supreme Court, a minority is any religious or linguistic group whose population does not constitute a majority in the state. By its very definition, the supreme court is emphatic that minority should be considered state-wise By this irrefutable definition, Hindus should legally, constitutionally, ethically and morally have been considered minority in the following states

1) Jammu and Kashmir-In Jammu and Kashmir, Hindus form just 28% of population. Muslims form 69%. All the chief ministers of Kashmir till date have come from the Majority Muslim community Muslims are a very powerful group. Politically, economically and electorally. One presumes Hindus would have been entitled to minority benefits and privileges. Far from it.

There is NO Minority commission in the state. JK state Govt simply refused to set up a minority commission in the state. This is shocking enough, but there is more. In Jammu Kashmir, Majority Muslims are entitled to 717 of 753 scholarships reserved for "Minorities"! Hindus of JK are a powerless group. Despite forming 28% of population, they are entitled to 0 of 753 scholarships reserved for "Minorities" Their language "Dogri" is not even recognized as "official language" in Jammu Kashmir. By contrast, Urdu is official language of Telangana even when Muslims of Telangana form only 12% of population

2) Punjab - In Punjab, Sikhs form a majority. They constitute 58% of population. Sikhs have traditionally been rulers of Punjab. They are mostly from the powerful landholding and trading communities ("Sardar" means aristocrat/land-owner). All the chief ministers of Punjab (since its reformation in 1966) till date have been Sikh. Hindus form just 38% of population. But again, Hindus are not entitled to any minority benefits. Hindus are entitled to 0 out of 1615 scholarships allocated for "minorities"

3) Arunachal Pradesh-In Arunachal Pradesh, Hindus are a minority at just 29% of state's population. But Hindus are entitled to 0 out of 38 scholarships reserved for "minorities". Christians are the largest community(30%), yet they are entitled to 21 out of 38 scholarships reserved for "minorities"

4) Mizoram- Hindus are 2.7% of population. Entitled to 0 out of 91 scholarships reserved for "minorities". Christians are the numerical majority constituting 87% of population. Entitled to 82 out of 91 scholarships reserved for "minorities".

5) Nagaland-Hindus are 8% of population. Entitled to 0 out of 193 scholarships reserved for "minorities". Christians are the majority constituting 88% of population. Entitled to 189 out of 193 scholarships reserved for "minorities".

6) Meghalaya- Hindus are 12% of population. Entitled to 0 out of 182 scholarships reserved for "minorities". Christians are the majority constituting 75% of population. Entitled to 172 out of 182 scholarships reserved for "minorities".

7) Lakshadweep-Hindus are 2% of population. Entitled to 0 out of 6 scholarships reserved for "minorities". Muslims are the majority constituting 96% of population. Entitled to 6 out of 6 scholarships reserved for "minorities".

This is blatant discrimination and injustice carried out by Indian Governments in total disregard of judiciary and Constitution.

In all these states where Hindus are a minority, there are not recognized as such either by state or central governments. Both state and central budgets shower hundreds of crores on those "minorities" who are actually the majorities of their states. In all the states where Hindus are a minority, a total sum of 0 has been allocated to Hindus by Minority Commission till date.

Minority Commission seems to have become a lobby of powerful groups with international influence. Far from doing any justice to powerless communities, it is only dividing and discriminating against people, pitting one community against other I urge competitive lawyers to file a complaint in the Supreme Court
