Asha, daughter of CPI(M)’s MM Lawrence, alleged that her dismissal was politically motivated.

Veteran CPI(M) leader MM Lawrence’s daughter Asha has been dismissed from her government job without prior intimation on Monday. Asha who worked as a daily wager in SIDCO (Kerala Small Industries Development Corporation) alleges that greater political influences within the CPI(M) are behind the move to oust her.

“I was given a verbal intimation on Monday afternoon. They have not given me any reason for dismissal. Just that they do not need my services anymore. I know that this this never happens in a government job,” Asha tells TNM.

Ever since her son Melvin Lawrence stirred controversy by participating in a BJP rally with State President PS Sreedhara Pillai against the Sabarimala order, Asha alleges that her superiors’ attitude to her had changed. She also alleges that she was verbally dismissed from the job after this incident. However, this decision was withdrawn by the SIDCO authorities as it stirred controversy and also received media attention.

“Back then when they decided to dismiss me, they asked if I had been able to convince Industries Minister EP Jayarajan. I told them that it was his (Melvin’s) personal choice,” Asha adds. She had also submitted a harassment complaint against CPI(M) State Secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan’s sister-in-law who also works in SIDCO which was entirely overlooked following the controversy, she alleged.

“She (Kodiyeri’s sister-in-law) had been speaking to and about me in a very insulting manner, making false allegations that I, being a divorcee with no family, was calling young men on the phone and other things,” Asha had earlier told TNM.

Asha, however, was once again asked to not return to work from Tuesday, without reasons being cited.

“They have several issues against me. They have foisted the whole vigilance raid which took place in 2016 which exposed corruption within SIDCO, on me. They also hold the Sabarimala issue against me and my family. Ever since my son participated out of his own interest, the MD’s attitude changed,” Asha alleges.
