Rioting in post-colonial countries like Mexico or India, ruled by natives, liberated from colonialism (at least overtly) IS NOT the same as rioting/looting in a settler-colonial nation like USA where the colonizers never left and everything is a reminder of colonizer’s barbarism.

One of the biggest con-games played on the Hindus is creating of a faux comparison between India and US. These two countries are nothing alike.

India is now led by people who were subjugated for 1000yrs under TWO waves of colonization. USA is STILL ruled by settler-colonizers.

We clamour to get the names of our cities back. We cringe when we have to say the name “Aurangabad” or “Victoria Memorial”.

EVERY OTHER STREET in America is named after a slave owner or worse. Just search how many “Columbus” Avenues or streets or drives are there in US.

One lost white dude came to this island looking for India, he saw some brown natives, Indians.

Imagine they are still called INDIANS. The European descendents call themselves Americans and call the real natives of America, Indians.

Black people were enslaved, separated from their land, inexplicable brutalities committed on them. Natives of this land were literally mass murdered.

This is a statue STILL standing in NYC. White man with black slave (forced to be naked and a Native chief walking like a slave)

Hindus need to remember, whatever else maybe going on with us, we atleast got Swarajya. We are no longer ruled by invaders and we have the freedom to reclaim our identities, our names, our buildings (to some extent).

Anger in America is latent and very deep rooted.

What was Babri? An outside invader came, took your sacred land, broke your temple, built some random building glorifying himself named after invader.

Thousands of others irritate us everyday.

Do you know how many colonizer buildings built on Native sacred land here? Thousands.

This is not a comparison, pain, agony and suffering of any group can never be compared to any other group.

These parallels I drew only to help Hindus understand and perhaps empathize with what is going on, in America.

All riots are not equal because all nations aren’t.

Public property in India, belongs to Indians now. Even if it was made by the invaders. In a settler-colonial nation, it can never belong to the natives, or at least it doesn’t feel like it, not really.
