There has been a 53% decline in terrorist incidents in Jammu and Kashmir over the 402 days since abrogation of Article 370 on August 5, 2019, as compared to the same period prior to the abrogation.

Minister of state for home G Kishan Reddy told the Lok Sabha on Tuesday that as compared to 455 terror-related incidents recorded in J&K over 402 days between June 29, 2018 and August 4, 2019, there were 211 incidents between August 5, 2019 and September 9, 2020.

In reply to another query, Reddy said that 138 terrorists were neutralized and 50 security force personnel martyred in the Union territory in the six months from March 1 to August 31 this year.

He further told the House that 223 persons were under detention in J&K as on September 11, 2020. Also no political person was currently under house arrest in the UT.

In a related query, Reddy said 176 cases of attempted infiltration into J&K had been recorded between August 2019 and July 2020, of which 111 were successful. Among these, most attempts were witnessed in the first three months after Article 370 abrogation from August to October 2019 (114), though they have dropped since, barring a rise in April 2020 (23 attempts).
