Union Railway Minister Ram Vilas Paswan, while speaking on the
confidence motion on Friday, asked Congress leader Sharad Pawar to be
bold and "pull the chain of the Congress president's train." Pat came
the UF members' remarks, "Punishment for chain pulling is six months'
jail" and will that punishment be inflicted on the Maratha Kesri who had
just inflicted a punishment on the Prime Minister. This sent the House
into peals of laughter.

BJP leader Pramod Mahajan had a dig at the United Front, saying that
both the Congress and the UF had chosen the wrong venue for holding
talks. First, it was held at the house of Dr Farooq Abdullah, who had
talked about giving one-third of Kashmir to Pakistan. The second round
was held at the residence of Mr Pawar, who was a fence sitter, he said.
Even Mr Pawar couldn't help smiling.

Mr Mahajan told the House about an incident when he had gone as part of
a parliamentary delegation to China. The Chinese officials wanted to
know about the working of parliamentary democracy in India. Mr Mahajan
explained that the BJP members belonged to the largest party in
Parliament, while the Congress members constituted the second largest
group. Delegation leader and Union Law and Justice Minister R K Khalap
was then introduced as belonging to a one-man party, but a Minister. Mr
Mahajan said that it was difficult for the 20-member Chinese delegation
to understand the logic. Even the dignitaries sitting in the diplomatic
enclosure started laughing.
