As political uncertainty gripped the nation following the with-
drawal of Congress support for the United Front govt, India Today
commissioned ORG-MARG, the country's leading market-research
organisation, to conduct a nationwide opinion poll. The poll was
conducted between April 2 and 8 in 51 representative parliamentary
constituencies in 16 states across the country. The ORG-MARG team
interviewed 13, 065 registered voters taking into account age,
gender, caste and religion. The results show that nearly half the
respondents prefer a mid-term pll, with BJP supporters more keen
than others for fresh elections. The poll also shows that if
elections were held now, the BJP and its allies stand to gain the
most at the expense of the Congress and the UF.
