Muslim scholar and president of the Muslim Personal Law Board,
Maulana Ali Hasan Naqvi (Ali Mian), has appealed to his community
to boycott singing of Vande Mataram.
He made this appeal at the state conference of the Din-e-Talimi
council here on Sunday.
He cautioned the gathering that Islamic culture and religious
values were in jeopardy. He said the present system of singing
Vande Mataram in schools was unIslamic. Maulana Ali Mian also
appealed to the BJP Government to desist from communalisation of
education which would destroy the secular character of the
country.
Mr Abdul Khalique of the Dar-ul Deoband said a conspiracy had
been hatched against Muslims to regiment their religious beliefs.
The meeting was addressed by the Vice-Chancellor of Aligarh
Muslim University, Dr M M Rahman, and Prof Nafees Ahmed among
others.
Agencies add: Maulana Ali Mian told newsmen in Lucknow today that
democracy, secularism and practice of non-violence were essential
for the survival of a country like India. Attempts to enforce
contentious issues like Uniform Civil Code would lead the country
nowhere.
Deploring the fact that India was losing tolerance, an important
ingredient of her culture, the Maulana said Muslims had no
differences with the BJP or any party. It would be for the good
of the country if the BJP followed the spirit of the Constitution
and ancient ethos of mutual respect, tolerance and respect for
all religious.
Maulana Ali Mian said the executive meeting of the Muslim
Personal Law Board has decided to launch a nationwide campaign
for creating an awakening about personal laws as these rules
related to the practice followed by the people and did not harm
the society or the country.
Regarding the Babari Masjid dispute, he said the AIMPLB was firm
in its stand that decision on the cases pending in the Allahabad
High Court should be expedited. Any other out of court solution
will be meaningless at this stage, he added.
