The Uttar Pradesh police
Sunday registered a case against three persons, including the national
president of the Student Islamic Movement of India for links with terrorist
outfits like the Hizbul Mujahideen and Lashkar-e-Tayiba.
Police said a first information
report was lodged at Azamgarh on Saturday.
The FIR includes charges
of spreading religious fundamentalism, making provocative speeches on sensitive
issues such as Jammu and Kashmir, damaging public peace and having links
with several militant groups.
They were also accused
of trying to spread hatred in the minds of Muslims by criticising the government
at a press meet organised at Azamgarh on September 8 last, police added.
Apart from SIMI president
Shahid Badr, the FIR was lodged against press secretary Abdul Noor and
Azamgarh district president Faizan Ahmed.
A case under section
153a, 295a, 505 and 120b of the Indian Penal Code was registered against
them, the police said.
