Just 24 hours before the swearing-in
ceremony of the Mayawati-led coalition government in Uttar Pradesh, Muslim
leaders have appealed for a social boycott of BSP's Muslim MLAs and another
cleric issued a fatwa against them on Thursday afternoon.
Talking to reporters, Maulana Mufti
Abul Irfan of the Firangi Mahal issued a fatwa on Thursday against BSP's
Muslim MLAs for joining hands with the BJP to form a government in the
state.
Maulana Kalbe Jawwad, a Shia leader,
who was also present at the press conference, said he had appealed to members
of the Muslim community to launch a social boycott of the BSP's Muslim
MLAs for joining hands with the BJP. "These MLAs should not be allowed
to attend prayers in the mosques," said Jawwad.
Last week, senior BSP leader Arif
Mohammad Khan, had on the similar ground quit the BSP. Reacting to Khan's
decision, Mayawati said he did it because he was denied a Rajya Sabha ticket.
