Police have arrested a Muslim couple
here for torturing a Hindu boy and trying to convert him to Islam, police
and local reports said on Monday.
Police said the boy was adopted
by the couple, identified as principal of the Libbs International School
Rake Parveen and a director of the school, Salman Khan, in December.
The boy, aged around 12, was reportedly
brought to the couple by his uncle as an orphan.
Police said the boy, whose age was
not given, was beaten for hours at a time and forced to convert to Islam,
an offence in the Hindu kingdom.
The boy escaped from the Muslim
couple, apparently Indian immigrants, yesterday and ran into his own father,
a security guard.
"Torture marks were evident on his
body received from his cruel foster parents," police said.
Police reported that the boy had
told them: "The Muslim couple didn't even give me enough to eat let alone
teach me to read and write. I was forced to wave a fan on them till three
o'clock in the morning every day. "
The couple face a maximum of 10
years in prison if found guilty.
