One of the two terrorists who struck
at Akshardham "was a local and was holed up in Ahmedabad long before his
colleague arrived", investigators have claimed.
This contradicts claims by central
agencies that the attackers were from Pakistan. Senior state police officials
said the identity of the terrorists needed to be verified on the basis
of scientific evidence. "We have received no official communique from any
agency confirming the identity of the terrorists," an officer involved
in the investigations said.
After questioning the taxi driver
who took the terrorists from the railway station to the temple, the vendors
from where they bought dry fruits and hosiery, the police believe that
only one person did all the shopping and also conducted a reconnaissance.
Meanwhile, the police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested six persons who
were plotting to target CM Narendra Modi during his yatra.
