The Kashmir Committee faced a hostile
crowd during its visit to a Pandit migrant camp at Purkhoo on the outskirts
of Jammu today.
The committee's interaction with
Pandit leaders went on smoothly. But later some of those living in miserable
conditions in one-room tenements for the last 13 years raised slogans against
the committee, "Go back, go back". The police and CRPF personnel escorting
the members saved them from physical assault.
The migrants said they did not want
to live in pitiable conditions and they wanted to return to their homeland.
"The Governments only make promises to further their political agenda,''
said Vikas Bhat, a youth.
Mr. Jethmalani pacified them and
assured them that the committee was well aware of their problems. "We are
determined to work for your honourable return and rehabilitation which
was decided at our meetings with militants also,'' he told them.
