Former chief of the air staff air
chief marshal A Y Tipnis (retd) today emphasised that India will have to
change the ''Big Brother'' attitude towards Pakistan and make the neighbouring
nation aware of our strength.
The approach of India and Pakistan
in viewing each other was completely different, the former air chief said
while speaking after releasing ''Kargil te Kandahar'' -- a compilation
of 83 editorials written by senior journalist and editor of the Pune edition
of Lokmat Arvind Gokhale, here this evening.
The former air chief said that while
India looks upon Pakistan as a younger brother who has gone astray, the
latter has nurtured on a congenital hatred for India.
Pakistan has brain-washed the rest
of the world through sheer propaganda into believing that Kashmir is the
only bone of contention between her and India. But the fact is that the
very existence of India is unacceptable to Pakistan, the former air chief
said.
The 1971 defeat is ingrained deep
in Pakistan's psyche and they want to avenge that defeat. The reverses
in Kargil have only heightened their hatred, the former air chief said.
While stressing the need to understand
the Pakistan psyche better, the former air chief noted that ''unless you
realise you enemy's strenth, you will stay where you are.'' Just as Kashmir
is a part of Pakistan's agenda, India, too, should make the neighbouring
nation realise that PoK is a part of India, the former air chief stressed.
The vanquished does not not appreciate
generosity, the former air chief stressed while noting that it is strength,
and not not weakness, which commands respect.
