In a crackdown sparked off by the
recent murder of gangster Sharad Shetty, the Dubai police detained more
than 30 gangsters this morning including two of Dawood Ibrahim's younger
brothers - Noora and Mushtakeen - besides a key D-Company associate Aftaf
Batki.
Batki is believed to be the kingpin
of a counterfeit racket that uses the 'hawala' channel. He was on top of
the Mumbai police list after his associate Bharti Aslam Khan's detention
under Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act 1999 (MCOCA) late last
year.
The others who have been detained
in Dubai include Ejaz Pathan, Mohammed Dossa and some gangsters from Malaysia.
Their detention comes on the heels of 150 other suspects being detained
in Dubai following the murder of Dawood's righthand-man Sharad Shetty on
January 19, allegedly by the Chotta Rajan gang. Dubai police have already
arrested four members of the Rajan gang in connection with the Shetty murder.
The killers are suspected to have
entered Dubai from Nepal.
It is still not clear whether there
was an Interpol red-corner alert preceding the arrests.
Their deportation is still a big
question, according to police sources.
However, Dubai has deported Mohammed
Altaf and Imran Rehman Khan in the past four months. Both were named in
the December last Ghatkopar blasts.
