As part of the Goraksha Abhiyan,
Bajrang Dal activists, on Thursday, intercepted a truck carrying cattle
at Vitawa octroi checkpost.
The truck was on its way to Rabodi
in Thane, where the cattle were to be illegally slaughtered.
The incident took place at 4 in
the morning.
After the activists intercepted
the truck, the ensuing commotion caught the attention of the local police,
who were maintaining a round-the-clock surveillance at the spot.
"Not appreciating the intervention
of the police, the activists turned violent and started pelting stones
at the truck. Before matters got out of hand, the police arrested the truck
drivers, took custody of the cattle and also arrested the Bajrang Dal activists
for rioting," reveals Manish Ajinkya, assistant commissioner of police,
Kalwa division.
The arrested persons were produced
before the Thane court on Thursday. According to Ajinkya, the Bajrang Dal
activists have been granted bail and have been asked to report to the police
station on a daily basis.
