Ejaz Pathan (49), the serial blasts
accused who was deported from Dubai on Wednesday, has told the CBI that
Dawood Ibrahim has several moles in the Mumbai police, including an inspector
who has several encounter killings under his belt.
Pathan is currently in CBI custody
for his alleged complicity in planning the 1993 blasts in Mumbai.
Sources said that Pathan, who had
distanced himself from his mentor Dawood Ibrahim a few years ago to run
a gang of his own, had given a detailed account of the D-company's activities
in Mumbai, Dubai and Karachi.
Pathan is learnt to have told his
investigators that the inspector, who is Considered an encounter specialist,
was close to Sharad Shetty-the man who ran Dawood's betting syndicate from
Dubai until he was shot dead there by Chhota Rajan's men on January 19.
The disclosure of the controversial
inspector's name has renewed suspicion that some police officers could
be working for the Dawood gang, sources said. There has also been suspicion
that a section of the crime branch is close to Chhota Rajan. Official sources
said that Pathan seemed to be in the mood to reveal all since he had discussed
the D-company's activities with the CBI officers who had accompanied him
from Dubai to Mumbai. It is learnt that Iqbal Kaskar, younger brother of
Dawood who was deported along with Pathan, has also disclosed information
about the links between the D-gang, the police and politicians.
