A spate of militant attacks left 31 dead in Tripura on Wednesday.

In a 9 pm raid in West Tripura's Moharchhora market in the Peliamura police station area of Khowai sub-division, militants massacred 10 people. Eight were killed on the spot and two died while being taken to hospital. The identity of the militants could not be ascertained.

Earlier, extremists entering from Bangladesh gunned down 21 nontribals, including eight children and six women and set ablaze houses in two separate attacks.

All-Tripura Tiger Force members, accompanied by 40 tribal collaborators, raided Satchhari in West Tripura in the wee hours and set fire to 10 houses before opening fire. As villagers began fleeing, the extremists opened fired and used sharp weapons killing 17 non-tribals on the spot. Two others later died at the G.B. Hospital in Agartala.

In a second strike, a group of suspected NLFT men shot dead a couple, Nilemesh Pal and Alpana, at Radhanagar village of North Tripura district.

The Congress and CPM have called a bandh on Thursday in protest against the killings.
