The Hindu Aikyavedi has demanded
a CBI inquiry into the Marad incidents after keeping the Industries Minister,
P. K. Kunhalikutty, and the Kozhikode District Collector, T. O. Sooraj,
out of office.
Addressing a press conference here
today, the convener of the Hindu Aikyavedi, J. Sisupalan, alleged that
the continuance of Mr. Kunhalikutty as a Minister could affect the outcome
of the Crime Branch inquiry because of his clout in the Home Ministry.
He appealed to the Government to keep the District Collector and the Kozhikode
Development Authority chairman, Moyin Haji, out of office as this could
also affect the outcome of the inquiry.
Mr. Sisupalan said a large number
of Hindus had left their homes fearing violence. In the 120-km coastal
stretch in Malappuram and Kozhikode districts, about 300 Hindu families
had already left their homes over the past few years. Once the families
residing in Marad are forced to leave the area, the coastal stretch could
be used for terrorist activities by communal forces, he said.
Mr. Sisupalan said that though training
for use of weapons was being carried out in 129 sensitive areas in the
State, no action had been taken by the Government to check it.
Mr. Sisupalan said that the VHP
would launch a massive campaign against the UDF Government if it did not
take effective steps to check the increasing communal clashes in the State.
The future course of action would be decided by the chairman of the Hindu
Aikyavedi, Swami Sathyananda Saraswathi, after the meeting of the Aikyavedi
leaders.
The Hindu Aikyavedi leaders, N.
Paramasivan Nair, V. K.Viswanathan and Kalady Manikantan, also attended
the press conference.
