He is an activist of the Rashtriya
Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), a group not too popular with the minorities. But
this school teacher has turned out to be a good samaritan for a hapless
Muslim girl.
Banambar Sahoo of Jamdhar village
had adopted a four-month-old Masuruddin after her father S K Abbas died
in an accident in 1981 and brought up the little girl giving her proper
education.
Sahoo's endeavor did not end here.
He got Musuruddin married off from his own residence in the presence of
two ''Moulvis'' of Kendrapara to a well-settled youth of her community
in Mantripada locality.
The school teacher had himself put
his signature on the ''nikhanama'' (marriage papers) along with the bridegroom's
father and two village elders, sources said.
According to them, Sahoo had allowed
Musuruddin to retain her religion and offer ''namaz'' regularly in his
residence.
They said the teacher had deposited
Rs 4,000 in the name of his adopted daughter two decades ago and spent
Rs 30,000 on her marriage which was attended by more than 400 people.
