BJP calls for CBI Probe
Police have intensified raids to
unearth arms and weapons suspected to be hidden or buried in the areas
surrounding Marad beach, the scene of Friday's attack which left nine persons
dead, reports PTI.
Excavation would be conducted along
the beach area to ascertain if more arms and weapons were kept buried,
police sources said. A large cache of weapons, including country
bombs and gelatine sticks, were seized from the area soon after the attack.
Meanwhile, BJP's Kerala Unit on
Tuesday rejected the Crime Branch police inquiry ordered by Kerala Government
into the Marad killings, claiming that the probe 'cannot be impartial'
in view of' 'growing suspicion' about involvement of a partner of the ruling
United Democratic Front. Reiterating the party's demand for a CBI
probe, State president C. K. Padmanabhan said, "Crime Branch investigation
may not be effective as there is a growing suspicion that one of the alliance
partners in the UDF Ministry is involved in the incident".
Chief Minister A. K. Antony had
on Monday announced that the Crime Branch police probe into the May 2 incident
which left nine persons dead.
The BJP would continue to demand
a CBI probe into the attack he said adding that party would organise a
statement agitation on May 12 in this regard, he said.
