Five women were arrested on charges
of trying to convert forcibly in Ranganathapuram near Bodinayakanur in
Theni Dist. They are Nagercoil Santhakumari (42), Jayaneedhi @ Radhika
(18), Ariyalur Sofia (19), Tambaram Surya (63), Kirubai (58). The
modus operandi of these is to go on door-to-door canvassing, distributing
pictures and books on Christianity and gifts. They promised employment
opportunities to those who got converted to Christianity. In addition,
in order to make everybody read the pamphlets, they announced that an incentive
of Rs.10,000/- will be given to those who write about the 'miracles' of
Jesus.
On a police complaint, these 5 women
were arrested on charges of trying to do conversion forcibly by offering
monetary gifts, false promises of employment, etc.
Sri Mahendran, RSS Karyavah of Bodi
Tk., Sri Ganesh Kumar, Tk. Saaririk Pramukh, and Sri S.Kanakaraj
of Bodi say that awareness among the womenfolk in Bodi is so high that
they objected to the canvassing of these 5 women, made a seige of them
before loding a Police complaint.
