The Karnataka High Court stayed
yesterday's order of Bijapur Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate
banning the entry of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) International Secretary
Praveen Togadia into Bijapur.
Staying the ban on a petition filed
by the organisers of 'Virat Hindu Samavesh', Mr Justice Mohana Shantanagoudar
said Dr Togadia was permitted to enter and address the Samavesh on July
27. However, he should not make any derogatory speech that would hurt the
feelings of other communities. He directed that the meeting should end
before 2000 hrs.
Deputy Commissioner G M Dhananjaya
had banned the entry of Dr Togadia ainto Bijapur for seven days from July
26.
Earlier, VHP State Secretary Pramod
Mutalik asserted today in Bijapur that Mr Togadia would address the 'Virata
Hindu Samavesha' at Bijapur on July 27 despite a ban on his entry into
the district, Talking to newspersons here, he alleged that the Karnataka
Government had yielded to pressure from Wakf Minister M L Ustad and imposed
the week-long ban on the entry of Dr Togadia.
''No orders will stop him (Dr Togadia)
from entering Bijapur. The State Government will be responsible if any
law and order problem arises,'' Mr Mutalik said.
