A Christian Pastor of Kaptipada
village in Mayurbhanj district and his accomplice have been arrested for
allegedly ditching a woman of the same village.
The woman has been admitted at the
SCB Medical College and Hospital here on Sunday in a critical condition.
She was brought to the hospital by VHP activists.
VHP joint secretary Pratap Chandra
Sarangi has demanded adequate compensation and free treatment to the victim.
According to Sarangi, pastor Rajendra
Mohapatra had been maintaining intimate relationship with the woman after
befriending her family members since long. The issue came to light after
the woman became pregnant. Fearing action by the villagers, Mohapatra gave
a written promise to marry her. After some days he took her to one Pravakar
Khuntia, a quack of Nilagiri and forced her to undergo abortion. She developed
complications after operation and was admitted at Balasore hospital by
the duo. Later, they fled leaving her in the hospital.
A case was filed by the woman's
brother following which the arrests were made.
