It has become very risky now on
the part of HRCBM ,Dhaka to perform humanitarian job outside Dhaka.
We are getting continuous threat and intimidation from unknown persons.
Although we have already informed the matter to the law enforcing agencies
time to time. Our representatives from various parts of the country are
of the opinion that after the death of reputed Journalist - Manik Saha
the situation has become more complicated and dangerous.
We on behalf of HRCBM decided to
visit Khulna where Manik Saha was brutally murdered, but some unknown people
yesterday intimidated our human right activists over telephone and asked
us to be more careful in dealing with the matter.
The similar telephone calls are
coming from Chittagong also regarding death of Amar Kanti Das of Halishahar,
Bandar P.s. Chittagong during DB Police custody. We on behalf of HRCBM
and GHRD i nvestigated the custodial death of Amar Kanti Das on 16th of
January, 04 and got very interesting information regarding death of the
victim during police custody. Amar was brought dead in Chittagong Medical
College on 10th of December,03. But the Police told us that the death is
normal not by police assault.
However, we consulted with the victim's
family, Police officers (DB) and local people and came to know that the
death is not due to heart failure but due to constant pouring of hot water
on the both eyes of Amar Das.
