A report received from a well-wisher
in Sri Lanka
There have been many attacks on
Christian churches in Sri Lanka over the past two months. The Sri Lankan
media has not covered it and the international media also largely ignored
the issue. Buddhist crowds had been angered by illicit conversions.
When similar attacks on Christian
churches took place in India, the Indian press went berserk. The international
media followed suit. The difference between media coverage on incidents
in India and Sri Lanka can be attributed to the local press in both countries.
The Communist Party of Sri Lanka
issued a statement condemning unethical conversions as a threat to the
social fabric and inter-religious harmony in Sri Lanka. The Communist Party
of India will never issue a statement like that.
Finally, the Conference of Bishops
of the Roman Catholic Church in Sri Lanka also issued a statement condemning
unethical conversions. They called for Christian Buddhist unity. The contrast
with their counterparts in India can not be more striking.
India is different because of its
anti-Hindu Nehruvian secular establishment. Change them - and your problem
in solved in large measure.
