The Indian Jewish community from
Mumbai, commonly referred to as Bene-Israel, celebrated Maharashtra Day
by organizing a series of cultural programmes in Marathi and pledging to
strengthen ties with their country or origin, reports PTI.
The two-day long even saw youngsters
singing in Marathi language and elders reciting poetry and actively participating
in various plays.
Notes Marathi caricaturist Sanjay
Upadhyaya and Chairman of European Marathi conference, Prof. Anil Nene,
were among the participants at the function. "We are proud of our
Indian heritage and we want the generations of Bene-Israel to come to remain
attached to the values of India," Noah Massil, Chairman of the Central
Organisation of the Indian Jews and Editor of Marathi Journal "Maiboli'
(Mother tongue).
Massil played an important role
in the formation of Worldwide Organisation of Indian Jews.
