Almost three years after armed ultras
attacked a CRPF camp on the outskirts of the national capital killing a
soldier, a Delhi court on Friday awarded death sentence to a Pakistani
national for his role in the attack.
"The monstrosity of the accused
to commit murder in a diabolical manner of a constable in a foreign land
is not the figment of imagination or film story, but the fact of modern
times. In order to castrate the terrorists, capital punishment is called
for," Additional Sessions Judge JM Malik said sentencing Maqsood Ahmed
alias Ashraf Abbu Mujahid.
The court agreed with Public Prosecutor
KK Singh's plea that terrorism has to be crushed with a heavy hand.
Ahmed hails from Miyawali in Pakistan.
He was given the death penalty under
two separate counts - section 302 (murder) read with section 120B IPC (criminal
conspiracy) and section 27 Arms Act read with section 120B.
He was further sentenced to undergo
rigorous imprisonment (RI) for 20 years for offence under section 4 of
Explosives Act, seven years RI under section 25(1d) of Arms Act 10 years
under section 25 (1A) of Arms Act and three years imprisonment under section
25(1B) of Arms Act.
A total fine of Rs 13,500 has also
been imposed on him.
ASJ Malik ordered that all proceedings
be committed before the High Court for confirmation of death sentence.
