It is not possible to confine Vanavasi
Kalyan Ashram in the concept of a voluntary institution. Vanavasi Kalyan
Ashram is an inspiring force of national awakening, integration, and unity,
said Prof. Gangmumai Kamei Professor of History in Manipur University,
here today.
He was speaking in the special programme
arranged in the Walchand Hirachand Hall of Indian Merchant Chambers, on
the occasion of the Golden Jubilee of All India Vanavasi Kalyan Ashram.
In it, a booklet published by 'Multimedia Vision' on the occasion of the
Golden Jubilee of the Ashram, was released at the hands of well-known Industrialist
Ashok Goel.
This programme was attended by All
India VKA's Convener Secretary, Gulwantsinha Kothari, President of the
Mumbai Mahanagar of the Ashram, Nalutai Damle, Maharashtra Secretary Vinayak
Joshi and Mrs Kamei and other dignitaries were present.
While explaining the work and importance
of the VKA in North India, particularly Manipur and other Adivasi parts,
Kamei said, "VKA has worked very hard for the last 50 years to achieve
all round development of the people known as Vanavasi and Adivasi.
At present, these efforts have got excellent success also. When relating
his personal experience about the work of VKA, he said that the organization
started its work 50 years ago. At that time, the organization was jeered
at as a Hindu organization. It was accused of breaking the unity of the
country by creating the secessionist tendencies among the Adivasi suffering
from ignorance and poverty on the basis of religion. But in reality,
the organization never did any work of this sort. The conspiracy of dividing
the country hatched by the outside powers was crushed by VKA successfully,
he emphatically said.
The Chief Guest, Ashok Goal, Industrialist
also spoke and praised the work of VKA. Because of the VKA, the exploitation
of the Adivasi by the outside powers has become impossible, because they
are now fully awake. We are willing to give all sorts of co-operation to
the VKA.
A cassette depicting the work of
VKA during the last 50 years was also shown on this occasion.
