Gurdwara Nankana Sahib attacked
by local Muslim youth
Panjab Radio UK reports that Sikhs
in Nanakana Sahib, Pakistan have come under attack by a local mob of Muslim
youth. Sikhs have been threatened that their shops will be burned if they
didn't leave till Monday. It has also been reported that Pakistan Army
has come to the site. UK Sikh delegations have contacted Pakistani Embassy,
and various Muslim leaders to solve the situation.
The Muslim mob attacked Sikh students
from Nankana Sahib School, and forcefully closed the shutters of their
shops. Two Sikh students, Pritam Singh and Surinder Singh, are in hospital
facing injuries from the attack. However the Panjab Radio UK has adviced
the Sikh community to "don't loose the peace." The situation is now under
control, it is reported. The Army Rangers have arrived at the spot. Sikhs
have gathered in Nankana Sahib, and the local Muslims are also there to
help. UK Muslim leaders have said, "if needed, we will travel to Nankana
Sahib to slove the situation."
Sardar Kalyan Singh, from Pakistan,
said that the case has been reported to the local police and the situation
is now under control. He said that, "all the students from Nankana Sahib
School are safe at home. Local Muslims and police officers helped the children
to their homes. Sikhs from Peshawar have come to Nankana Sahib. Pritam
Singh has been given medicine, and is now good condition. Sikhs, under
Sardar Hammat Singh, have blocked a road."
"Band-Karo! Band-Karo! Gurdwareo
Par Hamle Band-Karo!" was heard on Panjab Radio UK, as Sikh protesters
blocked the road, asking for an end to such attacks on historic Gurdwaras
in Pakistan. The town is now under the state of emergency.
The Muslim organisation, Ansar Bani
Trust UK leaders have contacted their Pakistani trust members to remain
in peace. The trust leaders have told that they are against such attacks
on Sikhs.
